2013 WWC Christmas Party
Excellent turnout for the 2013 Westman Wilderness Christmas Party. 24 members, Sue, Rick, Cheryl, Roger, Kim, Roger, Shelley, Joy, Jackie, Fred, Robert, Judy, Bert, Michelle, Kelly, Janis, Alf, Linda, Ed, Di, Betty-Anne, Carol, Bill and Stephanie showed up for the merriment (we missed the rest of you!).
The party was held at Sue and Rick's home and we were treated royally in their very comfortable home.
After nibblies and conversation, we moved on to the delicious (as usual) Wilderness Pot Luck with gourmet food to tempt every palate. Rick's 'Choo Choo around the Christmas Tree' was a big hit!
Then the excitement began with the start of the World Famous Wild Wilderness Gift Exchange. Following hair pulling, fisticuffs, twisted arms and numberous scratches, the gifts were finally 'allotted' to their rightful owners even though at one point President Fred had to call the meeting to order........!!
A sing song, with music by Michelle and miscellaneneous instruments provided by Kim (kazoos, etc) brought the Christmas Spirit into the gathering. Roger B and Bill did a rendition of a dream by a Wilderness Club member on Christmas Eve (see below). 3 or 4 members braved the outdoors to soak in the hot tub.
A big Wilderness Club thanks to Sue and Rick for providing their home and hospitality for this fun evening.
A WILDERNESS DREAM II
‘TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, WHEN ALL THROUGH THE HOUSE,
NOT A CREATURE WAS STIRRING, NOT EVEN A MOUSE,
MY STOCKING WAS HUNG BY THE CHIMNEY WITH CARE
HOPING CROSS COUNTRY SKIS WOULD SOON APPEAR THERE.
MY WIFE WAS ALL NESTLED SNUG IN HER BED,
WHILE VISIONS OF OUTDOORS DANCED IN MY HEAD
THINKING OF BACKPACKS AND EVEN SOME BEAR SPRAY
EVEN NEW HIKING BOOTS THAT WOULD BE OKAY.
...........I HAD JUST DRIFTED INTO A LONG WINTERS NAP
WHEN OUT ON THE LAWN THERE AROSE SUCH A CLATTER
I SPRANG FROM MY RECLINER TO SEE WHAT WAS THE MATTER.
THERE WAS OL’ SANTA IN HIS RED AND HIS WHITE.
WHAT AN AWESOME DISPLAY WHAT A MAGICAL SITE,
HE CAME TO MY WINDOW WITH A GLEEFUL BIG SMILE,
AND ASKED WHAT I WANTED FOR CHRISTMAS THIS WHILE,
(WOW, THIS WAS MY CHANCE I THOUGHT WITH ALL GLEE
FINALLY IT WAS GOING TO BE ALL ME......
I RIGHT AWAY TOLD HIM A TOQUE, A DOWN JACKET SO SMART,
A NEW SET OF SNOW SHOES WOULD BE DEAR TO MY HEART ,
NEW WOOLEN SOCKS IN SEXY RED COLOURS,
A SMART GPS THAT WOULD SHAME ALL OTHERS,
A HIKING STICK MADE OF SOLID GOLD,
LONG UNDERWEAR TO KEEP ME FROM THE COLD,
A WATER BOTTLE FULL OF GINGER AND RUM,
A TENT WITH A HEATER TO WARM UP MY BUM
AN ALUMINUM BIKE --LIGHT AS A FEATHER
AND A LIGHTWEIGHT CANOE I COULD CARRY FOREVER.
FRIENDS THAT LIKE ME FOR WHO I AM
AND TRAILS THAT WERE SUNNY AND NO LOG JAMS.
SANTA SAID WITH A SMILE, IT WILL ALL BE YOURS
AND A THOUSAND DOLLARS CASH JUST FOR A BIT MORE,
THEN HE SPRANG TO HIS SLEIGH, TO HIS TEAM GAVE A WHISTLE
AND AWAY THEY ALL FLEW LIKE THE DOWN OF A THISTLE,
BUT I HEARD HIM EXCLAIM AS HE DROVE OUT OF SIGHT,
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO THE WILDERNESS CLUB
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT.
